1. Narnia Is A Two-Faced Cat
Don't tell Narnia your secrets because she is two-faced and will spread rumors behind your back. Okay, so she might just have two different fur colors, but cats aren't the most trustworthy anyways, so you shouldn't tell her anything private just in case.
We wonder if any of her siblings had the same color pattern. It would be even more fascinating to see one where the split color goes down their back so that their entire body is two different colors. Split-dyed hair is really on-trend right now, so this cat is with today's fashion.
2. They Arrived In Auschwitz On The Same Day, And Were Tattooed 10 Numbers Apart
These three incredible men were sent to Auschwitz during the Holocaust, and they all arrived on the same day. Their numbers are ten digits apart, yet they only met for the first time 73 years later for the Last Eyewitness Project. After surviving the awful camp, they built families and respectful lives.
Although this generation is slowly fading away, what they bared witness to and what they endured will never be forgotten. Their families and descendants will carry on the legacy they left and share their stories so that history never repeats itself.
3. Turkish Garbage Men Made A Library From The Books They Found In The Trash
Have you ever wondered where your books go when you throw them away? Most people would assume that they end up in a dump somewhere, but that is not the case if you live in Turkey. The sanitation workers in Turkey decided to collect the books people discarded and created a library.
Why would so many people throw away books? Just because they read them once or twice doesn't mean they should go in the trash. If you have old books lying around your home, don't throw them in the trash; donate them to a local library instead.
4. This German Circus Uses Holograms Instead Of Animals
Circuses have kept animals in horrible conditions since they were founded, but the issue of animal cruelty only came to people's attention in the past couple of decades. When people stopped going to circuses, they had to think of creative ways to bring people back and make them happy.
In Germany, a circus decided to stop using animals altogether and started using holograms instead, for a cruelty-free experience. This is such a cool alternative because it adds a magical element without harming innocent animals.
5. What Voting In 2020 Looks Like
Beatrice Lumpkin might be 102-years-old, but she was not letting that stop her from getting out and using her right to vote. When she was born, women didn't have the right to vote, so it is important for her to participate in each election. However, this year was a bit more challenging.
Everyone knows 2020 has been a weird year, and we don't need to explain why at the point. To be extra safe because she is older, Beatrice put on a pink hazmat suit and walked her ballot to the nearest mailbox. She said the first president she voted for was FDR, and she has voted in every election since.
6. Why Isn't This In Every Drugstore?!
The Czech Republic is living in the future while the rest of the world is lagging. There are machines in some drugstores to refill shampoo, shower gel, detergent, and softener bottles. Instead of buying a new bottle each time, you can select the product you want and fill it up in the bottle you already have.
This idea would cut down so much plastic waste and help the planet in a significant way. When are the rest of the drugstores in the world getting these? Right now, it is hard to find zero-waste places to refill containers, but hopefully, there will be more shortly.
7. Posing In Front Of The Plane He Flew In WWII
This man is now 97-years-old, and he got the chance to see the plane he flew in WWII displayed in a museum. Can you imagine flying a plane that would have so much historical significance it deserves a spot in a museum? These corsair planes played a huge role in the war, and their pilots risked their lives every time they flew.
It is truly a miracle that this man survived because the life expectancy of pilots during WWII was measured in weeks. It was such a risky position, but those people were heroes. Standing in front of this plane must have brought back a wave of memories and emotions for him.
8. The Bonsai Tree Grew A Full Sized Apple
Did you know that tiny Bonsai fruit trees can grow full-sized fruits? Although they are minuscule in size, they have the same seeds as regular trees. From apples to lemons to pomegranates, you could have a full orchard right on your desk. It's also comical to see the tiny branches hold these huge fruits.
If there was more than one apple, the tiny tree might have toppled over. Although Bonsai trees require a lot of work, it might be worth it to have a fruit tree right on your kitchen counter. If you only eat one apple every couple of weeks, you will never have to buy fruit again.
9. Twin Sisters, Different Skin Colors
Maria and Lucy are twin sisters, but they don't even look related. Their father is white; their mother is half-Jamaican; their four older siblings all have darker complections; therefore, it was quite a shock when Lucy came out with fair skin and red hair.
They aren't identical, clearly, so they each inherited different genes from their parents. Maria got her mom's Jamaican genes, while Lucy got the Irish genes from her father's side. Although they don't look alike, they are extremely close and have never let their differences affect them.
10. The Last Male Northern White Rhino
One of the most powerful photos of 2018 was this man saying goodbye to an entire species as the last male Northern White Rhino passed away. The species used to be abundant across Central Africa, but hunting drove them to extinction. This innocent wild animal was taken from the world too soon.
There are more efforts to protect other rhino species because their populations are so scarce today. They tried to freeze embryos to revive the population, but it has not been successful yet. Hopefully, they can bring this species back again.
11. Gorilla's Pose For A Selfie With The Anti-Poaching Guards
One gorilla looks like he is a dad who has never heard of a selfie before, and the other one is like, "Oh, let me pose for the photo. Make sure to get my good side." It's so bizarre to see how human-like gorillas are because these two look like people in gorilla costumes.
Anti-poaching guards have dangerous jobs, but sometimes it is rewarding when they get pictures like this. This could be the hottest album cover of 2021. We don't understand why people hunt wild animals or the purpose, but it is awful, and we are glad these two are protected.
12. Tiny Lizard In A Spacesuit or Shedding Skin?
This tiny lizard is perfectly shedding his skin because they molt every two weeks. Although, it is much more exciting to picture this lizard putting on a spacesuit and boarding a tiny rocket to the moon. Maybe this is what lizard hoodies look like.
No one knew they needed this picture in their lives, but here we are to make your day better. This might be his work-from-home onesie, and everyone needs one of those to get through the rest of the year.
13. An Unlikely Duo
This bear and wolf were documented hunting and sharing food with each other for ten days, which is bizarre because these species do not hang out together. It's like Baloo and Akela met up for a reunion since Jungle Book 2 to look for Mogli and see how he is doing.
These two feel safe together because they lost their families, and wolves are used to hunting in packs rather than alone. If bears and wolves can set their differences aside, so can humans because these two would probably fight to the death in any other circumstance.
14. Both His Arms Were Ripped Off In An Accident And Doctors Reattached Them
John Thompson was working on a farm when he got into an accident. Both of his arms were severely injured, but he was all alone, so he had to hold a pencil in his mouth to call 911. Luckily he survived, and the doctors were able to reattach both his arms.
Although he got his arms back, he was not able to gain full functionality. After 28 years and over 30 surgeries, John can't button his shirt or shake someone's hand, which has really affected his life. He traveled around telling his story for a while and even tried to get into politics.
15. Baby Owls Sleep Face Down For A Funny Reason
Here is something to brighten your day: Baby owls often sleep face down because their heads are too heavy for their bodies. If that doesn't make you say, "Aww" out loud, we don't know what will. It's like a moody teenager who had a bad day and flopped down on their bed to scream into the pillow.
All this needs is the words "Monday morning" underneath it, and it would be the perfect poster for your walls. Did you notice the mouse "sleeping" near the owl's feet? It came back from hunting and was too exhausted to eat its meal, so he took a nap instead.
16. US Marshalls Escorting Ruby Bridges To School In 1960
In 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges became the first African-American to attend an all-white school in the south. You can see the determination on this brave girl's face, and, sadly, she had to have guards to protect her because it was such a volatile time in the south.
To be so young and deal with discrimination is awful, and it shouldn't have been this way, but things eventually changed because of people like Ruby. The teachers walked out and the students didn't want to sit with her, but that never stopped Ruby from getting a good education.
17. There Is A Day To Worship Dogs In Nepal
Kukur Tihar is an annual festival in Nepal, and people worship dogs by putting colored powder on their heads and giving them flower necklaces. It is considered a sin if you are disrespectful to a dog on this day. The dogs also get special foods like meat and eggs.
We think dogs should be worshipped every day because they are such loyal and amazing creatures. How could anyone not love a face like that? This is a festival we would love to attend in our lifetime. In fact, this should be a worldwide thing because some places need to treat dogs better.
18. A Once In A Lifetime Photograph
No, that is not Loki landing on earth from Asgard. A photographer was taking pictures of the city lights and accidentally captured a meteor. At first, he probably thought he captured an alien spacecraft entering the atmosphere, but it was much less scary than that.
Some people will probably say it's photoshop, but many people have seen these, although few have captured them like this. It could have been the Green Lantern, but people wouldn't find that as believable as a meteor.
19. This Funny Sculpture In Berlin
This sculpture was originally called "electoral campaign" by Isaac Cordal, but social media users started calling it "politicians discussing global warming," and the name became more popular. It is like they waited till the last minute to think about the planet, and now the earth is underwater, and they can't do anything.
It's like that meme of the cartoon dog sitting in a burning room saying, "This is fine. Everything is fine." Nothing is fine, and this will be the earth if we don't make changes. Short people will be the first to go, so we need to ban together to stop that from happening.
20. Someone Found This Box Of Old Money While Running Down A Dirt Road
This person runs down the same dirt road all the time, and people are always leaving their trash on the side of the road. One day, he stopped because there was a box he had never seen before. He took the box home and found that it had money dating all the way back to 1621.
Some of the bills and coins were from countries that no longer existed, and a good portion of the bills were from the 17-1900s. He hit a goldmine in a pile of trash. A museum would probably pay a lot to add these to their collection.
21. He Lost His Leg To Cancer And Attempted To Run Across Canada To Raise Awareness
There is no better name for this than the marathon of hope. Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete who lost his leg to cancer when he was 21-years-old. Despite losing his leg, Terry was determined to run across Canada from east to west to raise money and awareness about cancer in 1980.
He ran a full marathon every day and made it 143 days into his journey before losing his battle with cancer. Terry ran about 3,339 miles with just one leg, which is more than most people could say in their lifetimes. He had so much support along the way, and there are statues along the route to remember him.
22. Self-Taught Photorealistic Artist's Progress Over 4 Years
This person has been practicing photorealistic drawings, and he posted these pictures to show how much he has improved in just a few short years. In 2018, it looks like he went to the store and bought a camera instead of a drawing.
If someone said the bottom two were black and white photos, we wouldn't question it. How does someone get so much detail just from a pencil? You can see everyone one of their pores and little bits of textured skin; it is unbelievable.
23. The Longest Living Koi Fish Was 226
Hanako, the Koi fish, was born in 1751 and died in 1977. She was the oldest living Koi fish, and they figure this out by analyzing her scales after she passed away. Our goldfish from the carnival barely made it a week before they were flushed to fish heaven.
This goes to show that fish can live long lives if they are taken care of properly. This fish is older than America, so she saw plenty of wars in her lifetime. Next time you see a goldfish die, think of this and remember they can live longer than two days.
24. 100,000 People Gather In Poland To Protest Abortion Laws
2020 has been a bad year; we can all admit that. Tensions rose this year in Warsaw, Poland after the government tightened abortion laws. Even during a global pandemic, people were outraged enough to take to the streets to protest this injustice.
Poland already had harsh restrictions against abortion, but the new law made it illegal to have an abortion even if there is a fetal defect. Whatever side you might be on, it is inspiring to see a nation coming together to speak up about something they believe is wrong.
25. Heart-Shaped Amethyst Geodes Found In Nature
These two men look like they are holding matching BFF charms, but they actually found them while mining in Uraguay. These stone cold hearts are magnificent, and we want one for decoration. They are going to make someone very happy when they give these as gifts.
If this were a gender reveal, we would have finally found the most over the top way to share the baby's sex. They both have massive hands, and you know what they say about people with big hands; they have big hearts, of course.
26. This Spring Flows Through A Living Tree
This must be the most hydrated tree in the world. It has no excuse to be dehydrated unless there is a drought and the stream dries up. If we had a stream of water continuously running through us, we would have no excuse to be dehydrated.
If this is how the tree pees, it would like some privacy. Who wants to be stared at while they relieve themselves? The biggest question we have to any tree experts is how this doesn't cause the tree to rot from the inside out?
27. Fish Skin Can Be Used For Human Skin Grafts
Basically, people can become mermaids, and we have finally proven that. Fish skin is used to treat burn victims or diabetic wounds because it recruits the body's cells and eventually turns them into living tissue. Do these people also grow a fin and resort to wearing seashell bras?
Not only does it help heal the skin, but it also soothes the pain of burns. Next time you jokingly insult someone, you can say, "Get them some fish skin for that burn." We will be in a corner laughing at our own dad jokes if you need us.
28. Sunset From Space
We thought you could only see all those gorgeous sunset colors from the ground, but now we know astronauts can watch the sunset as well. We are sure people are sick of seeing a sunset picture on Instagram, but this is an upgraded version of those annoying photos that all look the same.
It looks like those colors cover the whole sky from the ground, but it is just a minuscule portion of the sky. Astronauts can see 16 different sunsets per day— that is a lot of Instagram stories to post. Hopefully, they can keep up with the basic Instagram girls of the world.
29. Mysterious Clouds In Kentucky
It looks like someone used the stretch filter to morph the clouds, but this picture wasn't edited at all. It's like each cloud is threatening to be a tornado but doesn't want to transform fully. We can't imagine what flying through these types of clouds must feel like.
This looks like the sky above Harry Potter's house the first time he tried to do magic. Maybe this is the movie poster for 2020 that they haven't released yet because they don't know what bad things could still happen in the next three weeks.
30. Himalayan Griffon Vulture Showing Off Its Feathers
At first glance, this bird looks like its eyes are closed, and it has a tiny beak compared to its face, but then you see it. Its actual head is little, and it just walks funny with its feathers puffed out. This bird does not look happy, like it is marching to speak to the manager.
How long did it take you to see its actual face? It took us a few minutes and then were saw how scary this bird actually is. These vultures are massive, you wouldn't want to come face to face with one.
31. This Snake Looks Like A Children's Drawing
Although most people associate snakes with danger, the Arabian Sand Boa is harmless. It doesn't even look intimidating with its cartoon-like eyes. Why does it look like someone took a children's snake drawing and turned it into a realistic image?
If you ever wanted to see a derpy snake, this is the one. Their eyes are on top of their heads are perfect for after the snake buries itself in the sand while still seeing what is going on around them. These apparently make great pets if you are interested in owning a snake.
32. Alopecia Reveals The Muscles Of A Chimp
We knew that chimpanzees were strong, but underneath all that hair, they are like bodybuilders. Their arms look even more human-like when the hair isn't covering everything. The amount of power they have is actually terrifying because it could take six or more men to control this chimp.
They can rip you apart with ease because they possess so much strength. This is why people shouldn't try to keep them as pets. Remember that woman who had one as a pet, and it destroyed her face? That's because they are meant to live in the wild, not in a home.
33. The Warrior Ant Preparing For Battle
People always forget how strong ants are despite their small size, which is why they should be feared. Russian photographer Andrey Pavlov takes macro photographs of ants, and it just shows that they are tiny but mighty.
The Rocky training song is definitely playing in the background why this ant bench presses the log over its head to get stronger. Where is the workout montage that follows him from puny ant to strong protector? That is what we need in all of our lives.
34. Baobabs In The Mist
This photo wasn't taken from a movie set or a different planet. It was captured in Madagascar on a foggy day, but we understand how it would look like a scene from a sci-fi film. When it is not foggy, these trees look like something a child drew.
There is a myth surrounding these trees that someone planted a seed upside down, which is why the branches look like roots. They also produce very sweet fruits that are full of vitamins. Maybe this person just collected some to bring home.
35. In The Background Of Each Other's Photos Years Before They Met
Imagine seeing someone in the background of an old photo and realizing it is your husband. This couple realized they were in the background of each other's photos years before they even met. If that isn't a coincidence, we don't know what is.
You could pass someone on the street, and years from now, they might have a significant role in your life. You never know what kind of connections you will make with strangers that turn into friends or even spouses. The world may seem massive, but it isn't always.
36. This Man Invented Karaoke But Didn't Get Credit
Daisuke Inoue invented the karaoke machine, but he didn't patent it, so he never got a single dollar or ounce of credit from the billion-dollar industry his invention created. He created it because he wanted to help the world learn to sing, and he has no regrets.
Maybe we are greedy, but if our invention turned into a massive industry, we would at least want credit for it. This is the first karaoke machine he invented, and people stole his idea to make money, but he seems pretty happy without the money and recognition.
37. This Is The Real Size Of A Kiwi
Who else thought Kiwi birds were tiny and fuzzy? When we found this photo, we were so confused because even their name makes them seem like they should fit in the palm of your hand. This Kiwi is not that cute, and its beak looks like it could poke your eyes out from a distance.
Their eggs must be huge too. Why is everything in Australia abnormally large? Between the snakes, spiders, bugs, and now birds, this is not a place we want to visit anytime soon.
38. This Flower Was Grown Entirely In Space
This beautiful flower somehow managed to grow in space, yet our house plants die after a month, so now they have some explaining to do. How can this flower last through the harsh conditions of space? It reminds us of the single flower that grew on Earth in Wall-E.
No one can see it bloom in space, but it was a big advancement in science to know that plants can survive and even thrive. Seriously, we give our plants love, water, and the right amount of sunlight, but this space plant looks so much better.
39. The Tomb Of Ramesses VI
As you enter the Tomb of Ramesses VI in Egypt, "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars starts playing out of nowhere, and then the mummies possess you. While that might not happen, it is funny to imagine. This tomb is one of the most sophisticated and complete out of the surrounding tombs.
It is fascinating that they used to go through all this trouble to bury the kings because they believed in the afterlife. In comparison, people are put in the first for eternity, which these kings would definitely frown upon.
40. Woman Delivered Her Baby Moments After Beirut Explosion
On August 4, 2020, a warehouse in the Beirut port exploded, causing $15 million in damage, leaving 300,000 people homeless, while resulting in 204 deaths. People flooded the hospitals because thousands were injured. Meanwhile, this woman was in labor when the explosion happened.
Moments after the blast, she delivered her baby even though she was covered in glass, and her husband was bleeding. As life was taken from the world, a new life was born. She was lucky to be safe, and we hope she and her family are ok.
41. Get These Trees Some Blankets
In northern Finland, temperatures can drop to -40 degrees celcius, and the snow and frost piled on the trees make them look like something from another planet. How do the trees survive such harsh winters like this? They must be shivering under there.
Someone should knit tree blankets before the winter fully sets in. The tree would be forever grateful to have a layer of warmth between them and this snow. It almost looks like clouds of smoke underwater if you scroll quickly.
42. This Man Got His First Prosthetic Hand
This man was permanently stuck in the shaka hand sign until he got his prosthetic. Now he has a partial robot hand, and it is like something straight from the future. Do you think the fingers can type incredibly fast or shoot lasers?
This is something Tony Stark would build for Spiderman to produce better webs. It is so cool how futuristic prosthetics look these days. It used to be something people were ashamed of, but now they can show them off with pride.
43. An Outdoor Theater Made From Hay Bales
Dwight Shrute from The Office must have built this hay theater for the evolution of Hay Place, and they crowned the Hay King on the stage. Everyone has to be careful because one spark and this place would be up in flames.
The farmer is probably wondering where all of his workers went. Then he walks into the field and discovers they used all of his hay bales to build this theater and they didn't even invite him to the concert. We wonder what the acoustics are like in a hay theater.
44. Mosaics Found Under An Italian Vineyard
An almost entirely intact Roman mosaic villa floor was discovered just outside of Verona, Italy. These tiles could be hundreds or thousands of years old, and they still look better than our kitchen tiles that were installed only ten years ago.
The Romans weren't messing around with their mosaics, and they did everything with such precise detail and accuracy. We wonder if this changed how the grapes grew or the flavor compared to spots where the tile wasn't below the vines.
45. Kangaroos Hopping Through The Snow
We have learned a lot about Australia over time, but we never knew the continent got snow because we just picture it as one giant beach. Now we know what kangaroos look like as they hop through the snow. Each time they land, they say, "ooh cold, ooh cold, too cold."
In New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania, people can experience Australian snow during the winter, which is summer for most other countries. Do you wonder if the kangaroos look forward to the snow to have snowball fights?
46. Maldivian President Held The First Underwater Cabinet Meeting
Can you imagine trying to have a serious meeting while everyone is wearing scuba gear? The Maldivian president thought it would be a good idea to hold a cabinet meeting underwater to demonstrate the threats of global warming for their country.
The thirty-minute meeting was to sign an SOS message from the Maldives to the world because their islands will be submerged underwater unless change starts to happen. No one would want to see this beautiful country disappear below the water's surface.
47. Wine Windows Coming Back Into Use
Back in the 17th century, during the plague, wine windows were used to stop the spread of the deathly virus. Who knew centuries later they would be using these again for a different global pandemic? No matter which virus is going around, people still need their alcohol.
2020 has been a strange year, and we could never have guessed that plague practices would resurface. Shouldn't we have learned something from the millions of people who died in the 17th century? With all the technology, you would think this wouldn't happen, but it did.
