How Americans View the British Versus How Everyone Else Views Them
The perception of the British people is very different when it comes to America versus the rest of Europe. Americans tend to see the British as very prim and proper people who drink tea elegantly and talk with a sophisticated accent. We assume that they are wearing suits and ties on most occasions. However, Europe has a very different opinion and image of the British in their minds.
Europeans tend to see the British as wreckless and loud people who make a bit of a scene. Perhaps that is the exact same picture that the British have of Americans?
When the Moon Equals Freedom
There is a very popular song that has a famous like that says, "I'm proud to be an American because at least I know I'm free." In this thread, people are laughing because there is freedom in many other countries as well, not just in the US. However, someone went on a bit of a tangent by focusing on the fact that the US managed to put a flag on the moon. According to this person, that proves Americans are the only free ones.
Sadly, it is unclear how the moon landing is related to America being freer than the rest of the world. But this European got back at them by responding, "Call me when your moon flag pays your hospital bills." Ouch!
Australia Versus the US
There is no denying that although both countries speak English, there are plenty of slight differences in the languages between the two places. While Americans say "man," Aussies will say "bloke." A cyclone is a hurricane in the US, and the Australian lift is known as an elevator. However, the one phrase that has no direct translation into American English is the term "universal healthcare," as that is definitely not a concept in the US.
Our follow-up question to this meme would be this: Does Australia have a word for "privatized healthcare" or not? We're just asking for a friend.
Avoiding the Metric System Like the Plague
It would be greatly appreciated if someone could explain why Americans refuse to switch to the much simpler and easier-to-understand metric system. It seems comical that the rest of the world uses the metric system, but the US refuses to make the switch. This thread poked fun at the US for using blue whales as a measurement but not the metric system (it is pretty funny when you think about it).
Someone responded that the Americans would do just about anything to avoid using the metric system, even if we have to resort to measuring lengths in blue whales. And it appears this person is correct.
It's Spelled You're, Not Your
Many people are familiar with some Americans who do not like it when foreigners don't know how to speak perfect English. They will often say to them, "You're in America now; speak English." Some people even have the audacity to put this on their car's bumper. However, it looks like they need to learn how to speak and spell English properly before they start telling other people to do the same.
Do you think the people who created this license plate made it knowing that grammatically ignorant people would purchase it and hoping that it would make a fool out of them? Or do you think that the creators were the ignorant ones?
The Difference Between America and 'Murica
If you are looking to simply and accurately explain the difference between America and 'Murica, this picture can come in handy. On the left, you are presented with Chris Evans with a beard; that is Captain America. On the right, you are presented with Chris Evans with a mustache and no beard; that is Captain 'Murica. They sound similar and have many similarities, but at the end of the day, are they even the same thing?
Which version do you like better? Are you on Team Captain America or Team Captain 'Murica? People are very divided between the two, and there is little to no overlap.
The Real Reason the 1/3 Pounder Burger Failed
It is a true fact that the 1/3-pounder burger failed in the US because many people thought that quarter-pounders were bigger. It seems that most of the people just did not think their math through when they were ordering a burger and just went with what they were used to. However, it looks like some Americans will go so far as to fight that the 1/3 pounder is indeed smaller.
They then accidentally admitted that they did not know what the greater than and less than signs mean after someone tried to explain the basics of the fractions to them.
American Owls Are Fearless
Being a police officer comes with its fair share of challenges. It is definitely not the easiest job, and there are plenty of risks involved. However, this is probably a story, unlike any story you have heard before. A Louisiana police officer got into a car crash after an owl flew into his patrol car. It started pecking and staring at him and would not stop, as you can see by the scary picture.
The best part of this story is the social media page for the "Owl From Louisiana." He clearly does not like police officers and is not ashamed of what he has done, claiming that he will do it again.
Could This Be the Real Reason for Their Longer Life Expectancy?
People tend to say that Europeans live longer due to the olive oil, red wine, and nuts that make up a good portion of their diet. However, maybe the joke is on them, and the only real reason that they live longer than Americans is because of the fact that the average person can afford to go to the doctor. It is no secret that medical bills are quite expensive in the US.
Could it be the real reason Europeans live longer is simply that they're not afraid to go to the doctor and come home broke? We guess we'll never know the truth.
Praying From the Womb
According to this meme, if newborns had a choice, they would most likely wish to be born in a country like Norway. Although the weather is not the nicest, they do have some amazing social services over there that could give them a comfortable life. And according to this meme-maker, being born in Mississippi in the USA instead of Norway would cause panic in your average newborn.
To make matters worse, following some of the stereotypes of young Mississippi families, this baby's parents are actually TikTokers who are in their teens.
The Unpresidented Beauty
Mount Rushmore is a very unique place. Do you know of any other country that decided that they want to carve the faces of some of their presidents into a random rock? How did they decide that this was the best rock to do it? The pun here is unmatched as they talk about how Mount Rushmore had natural "unpresidented" beauty even before the presidential carvings took place.
It is probably pretty rare to have a photo of Mount Rushmore before it was carved with the faces of the presidents. It really changed the face of South Dakota.
The One Country Without It
One of the sorest subjects for Americans is our healthcare system. While some of us are used to the way things are and don't even think that it could be any other way, others realize that there is a different way to do it. THis meme points out that 32 out of the world's 33 developed countries have successfully made universal healthcare work; only the US can't seem to figure it out.
Some Americans argue that universal health care is just too complicated and it would be too hard to implement it in the US. But this meme argues otherwise.
We're Gonna Need Some Ice for That Burn
It's funny how different people are affected by different temperatures. If you grew up in Canada, you wouldn't really be phased by the cold weather. If you grew up in Australia, heat is nothing to you. However, that is not really the focus of this meme. This meme is more focused on the fact that Americans can not even understand this meme because it is written in Celsius and not Fahrenheit.
Only the Americans will be left with our Fahrenheit until the end of time. No one can understand us, but at least we have each other.
The Reason the World Has Cars
People love to claim various inventions for their own country, whether or not there is any truth to that claim. This person is saying that you can't bash America too much because we at least made it so that you could have a car. However, the car was actually invented in Germany, and the US cannot claim that on our list of good things that we have brought to the world.
As a result of an American (Mr. Ford), cars became accessible and affordable for the average person, so maybe that is what they were referring to when they made this comment.
When the Tables Are Turned
Some Americans love to say that foreigners and immigrants should be able to speak fluent English the moment they come to the US. They have no real choice as it is an English-speaking country, and they do not want to make accommodations for people who speak other languages. However, it is slightly hypocritical as many of us Americans can usually only speak one language, English, and make no effort to speak the language of the locals when we are abroad.
You would think that as a person who travels, you would be able to relate a bit to someone who does not speak a language perfectly as you are also not fluent in every language out there.
British Versus American Food (and Healthcare)
It's hard to disagree with the commenter on this post about the food that BBC Yorkshire is posting on their account. It truly does make it look that British food is made by people who are still in the 1800s with no electricity. After all, who puts a slab of cheese with a piece of cake? However, the comeback from the British woman is perhaps the best part of this meme entirely.
While the British eat like they are in the 1800s with no electricity, the Americans eat as if we have free health care, even though we do not.
Movies Versus Reality
Everyone knows that what you see online is not always true, but some people tend to forget that what you see in movies is oftentimes also not true. The US is portrayed in a very particular way when we are in films. We are almost always depicted as a strong bald eagle that is able to solve all the problems in the world. However, that is not always the case when it comes to real life.
When it comes to certain important things (like the pandemic), we look a little less like the bald eagle at the top of this meme and more like the stuffed eagle at the bottom of it.
A Romantic Date at the Most Expensive Place in Town
There seems to be no end to the jokes about our healthcare system and how expensive it is. This may just be the best one of them all. Imagine you are living in the US, and you want to surprise your girlfriend by taking her on a date to the most expensive place in the city. She most likely would not expect to be taken to the hospital, although that is undoubtedly the most expensive place in the city.
This seems like a joke a European would play on an American just to make fun of our expensive healthcare system.
German Walls Are Just Built Differently
There is a pretty big difference between the way that we build walls and houses in the US versus how they do it in other countries such as Germany. In Germany, the walls are made out of an extremely sturdy and strong material that is nearly impossible to destroy or damage. In the US, things are pretty different. If you so much as hit the wall a little too hard, it can crumble.
There is no real way to know which one is better and which one is worse; maybe they are just different and serve different purposes.
The USA Is Kind of a Toddler When You Think About It
Sometimes people forget that the United States of America is actually a pretty young country. As we were founded in 1776, that only gives us a few hundred years of existing up until now. As this meme shows, there are soy sauce companies in Japan that are older (by a lot) than the country of the US. There is a soy sauce company known as Shibanuma Soy Sauce company that was founded in 1688.
It's funny to think that one of the most powerful countries in the world wasn't even in existence when this Japanese soy sauce company was founded.
Spider-Man Was More Realistic Than We Realized
Only in the US would anyone think that it is totally normal to just not go to the hospital after getting a spider bite the size of a golf ball. Who would just sleep it off after also realizing that it is radioactive? Well, you might want to remember that Peter lived in the US, and in the US, no one wants to have to go to the hospital and go broke with the fees.
Instead, he decided to just go to sleep and hope that he would be able to sleep off the pain and the injury.
You Can Only Go Wrong
There are many different sides to the political situation in the US. People tend to stick very firmly to their side in an argument, and it can be hard to sway them, even when things are not quite making sense. This meme is pointing at one of those confusing situations where some people argue that we can't help immigrants because we need to focus on citizens. But then, when people want to help citizens, some of those same people disagree.
Why? Well, some of them think that certain kinds of help are too much like socialism. So what's the right answer? We don't know, so we'll just keep laughing at this meme.
Football Coaches Versus Fútbol Coaches
Non-Americans tend to have a great dislike of American football. Maybe it is only because we have taken the word that the rest of the world uses to describe football and switched it to another sport and called football soccer. It is very confusing. So they tend to take every opportunity to roast American football, as can be seen in this meme where they are comparing football coaches in the US to football coaches in Britain.
You can see immediately that there is quite a difference in the shape and the attire of the coaches in the different places.
World Champions for the Last Century and a Half
The US and the UK have two very different mentalities when it comes to sports. The UK invented a sport that they loved and spread it to the entire world. The rest of the world then became much better at it than them, and they were left embarrassed as a result. The US had a very different method entirely. We invented a new sport, saw that no one else wanted to play it, and automatically became the world champions.
It must be sort of nice to be able to have a sport that no one else in the world plays. It's funny that it is so popular in the US, but no one else in the world cares about it.
And They Said Video Games Were Too Influential
You have probably heard from countless adults that they have a true and honest fear that video games are going to brainwash their children into being violent and angry. Whether or not there is any truth to that is unrelated to the fact that people are much more likely to be "brainwashed" by their news source than they are by video games. So which one is the biggest risk here?
If you are right-leaning, you will think just like Fox News, and if you are left-leaning you will think like CNN. Either way, you will soon be thinking just like them.
The Hogs Have Surrounded Us
Although the premise of this map is already strange enough (after all, who really cares how many hogs are in a country), the comments on the picture of it are by far the funniest. Each dot on the map represents 5,000 hogs. As the people in the comments have pointed out, that makes it look like the US is surrounded by hogs on all sides, and all of Canada and Mexico have been overwhelmed by them.
The funniest comment is that people are saying that the borderline of each state makes it look like they are all surrounded by hogs and that they cannot escape.
USA's President Versus Portugal's President
If the President of the United States of America ever visits your town, you are sure to find out. Why? Oh, you'll just see endless police, secret service, and cars coming down the street. So many cars that you don't even know which one the President is in! The USA doesn't let our world leader out in public without some intense security. But things are done slightly differently in Portugal.
There, the president takes solo trips to the grocery store in casual shorts and even goes to the beach for some selfies and chats in the water.
Imitation Is the Sincerest Form of Flattery
Is it really that difficult to come up with a new name for a city? Do you really have to take all of the names from European cities and just place them in the US? There is no need to have a Paris and a London in every state in the US. There is nothing that you can really do at the end of the day, there is no patent or copyright on city names.
Maybe the people who settled in those places were from Paris or London and they actually just wanted to create a new version of their beloved city abroad, in a new place.
Not Everyone Knows That Georgia Is a Country
The funniest part about this meme is that this person probably thought they were doing a favor by explaining to this other commenter that Georgia is actually a state and not a country. However, they did not know that they were being played as the fool. Although Georgia is a state in the United States, it is also a country in western Europe. Technically she is wrong and right at the same time.
Georgia is not the most well known country, so you have to give her a little bit of a break in this situation. However, she should check her facts before correcting someone else.
Saving the World One Movie at a Time
The United States of America has a very particular picture in movies and films. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the majority of popular films are produced in the US, so we have a large say on how the US is presented to the world. If you were to only watch movies, you would think that the US is constantly out there doing whatever it can to save the world.
In all reality, this is actually what "saving the world" looks like. We seem to be doing a great job, but at the end of the day it is all more just a big show.
Oily Food Versus Oil-Filled Lands
Visiting the US is so much fun. You get to see the Statue of Liberty and the Golden Gate Bridge. You get to watch football and eat cheeseburgers. However, things can look very different when the US comes to visit you. The US is pretty well known for its aggressive attempts to forcefully take oil from various other countries around the world. Granted, we are definitely not the only country to do so, but perhaps just the most successful.
This meme really does portray the exact feeling pretty well. They even have the bald eagle as the emblem of the one taking the oil from the other countries.
Being Bilingual Means a Lot in the US
If you go to Europe and say that you are bilingual, it will probably will not be considered too much of an accomplishment. After all, Europe is a place full of countless different languages and the average European speaks between 2-3 languages. In the United States, however, most people speak just one language: English. If you say that you speak more than one language in the US, it is quite the accomplishment.
It's funny how things are so different based on the location. In Europe it is necessary to speak a few languages, just due to the proximity of the countries and languages, but in the US it is less crucial.
There's No Place Like Florida
There is no shortage of crazy and one of a kind "Florida Man" stories floating around out there. There is even a website where you can check what Florida Man story happened on your birthday. Well, one day there was a man who tried to get out of his DUI by claiming that he did not technically drink while driving and that he only drank when he was at stoplights.
The funniest part of this story is perhaps the fact that he truly thought that he would be able to get out of his DUI by making this claim.
How Hollywood Thinks Aliens See the World
To humans, the world seems like a very large place. There are so many different countries, spread out between oceans. However, as the narrative of the current world seems, it looks like aliens are actually only interested in one place when they look at the world..the United States of America. Whether or not this is actually the case or just how it is made to seem oftentimes, it does feel somewhat accurate.
Let the aliens focus on the US while the rest of the world lives in peace while there is an alien invasion, at least the US is prepared for it.
The Turn on Red Is a Major Contribution
Although this meme is trying to make fun of the fact that America has not contributed too much to Western civilization, maybe they did not exactly get the point across that they were hoping for. The ability to turn on a red light is something that really should be adopted throughout the world. It is convenient, it helps to reduce traffic, and it is simply the greatest. So although they were making fun, perhaps it is somewhat true.
It is really surprising that more countries do not adopt the turn on red feature that is across the US. It would really be a huge benefit in many places.
Last Moments for a Drone in Florida
Florida is probably not the best place to test out drone deliveries. After all, you already saw some of the crazy things that Floridians do, this is just another item to add to the list. Amazon attempted to test their drone delivery services in Starke Florida, but it ended up being a very short trial, as can be seen by this image of an angry couple trying to destroy the drone.
The only positive thing about this situation is that they were able to capture this moment on camera. The beer bottle was mid air and the woman was throwing another. What did they think this was?
Oh, the Irony of Us Laughing at an Old King
Sometimes it's funny to think how old world leaders are around the world. Americans tend to laugh at the British since King Charles is 74 years old, but what we don't seem to remember is that our President is no young chickadee either. He is quite a few years older and is 79. Neither of them is particularly young, so both countries should be laughing at themselves rather than at the other.
The two leaders should be friends. After all, they are very close in age. Although that is not all it takes for a friendship, it certainly helps.
They Must Be Born on Texas Soil
Although many Americans are very proud of their heritage and will discuss to everyone how proud they are, Texans are a whole other category and they are even more proud than most. There is a reason that they want to secede from the union and create their own country. Just to understand how patriotic they are, one man paid over $200 just to have some Texas soil shipped to Italy so that his son would be born on Texas soil.
He probably couldn't imagine the thought of going back home to Texas and having to tell all of his friends that his son was not born on Texas soil. Now technically that will be true.
Converting to the Metric System Would Be the End of Us
This is both hysterical and completely true at the same time. Although it is a funny pun that shows how crazy the world would be if Americans switched from pounds to kilograms overnight, it seems that someone also could not resist the urge to include a dad joke in there. Of course, there would be mass confusion, but did you know there would be mass confusion in multiple ways?
This meme is the perfect portrayal of what would happen in this case and how everyone is trying to push the man back from speaking his mind about the metric system switch.
Wanting to Move Here at Some Point Is a Rite of Passage Into Adulthood
There are countless people around the world who, throughout history, have wanted to move to the US in order to have a better life, become more financially successful, and live the American dream. However, as the years pass, this is becoming less and less of a dream for countless people. For sure there are many people who still would do anything to move to the US, but it does not hold the same strength as it once did in the realm of immigration.
The US still does offer many opportunities for people who come from other places in the world, however, at the end of the day it is not exactly as the movies make it out to be.
