Even Celebrities Dig Themselves Into a Hole Sometimes
It's easy to assume that legendary actor Neil Patrick Harris can do no wrong, but just take a look at Exhibit A! In 2018, he decided to awkwardly call out a woman who he met backstage at the Tony Awards. He posted this online for all of his followers to see and made it seem as though he had no idea who she was. Unfortunately for her, that woman - actress Rachel Bloom - wasn't going to let him get away with it.
After all, the two actors had not only met numerous times, but her husband worked on his show for a whopping five years! Yikes, that must have been awkward the next time they saw each other.
Always Check the Last Name
We probably don't need to tell you that the internet is full of rumors. Everyone can spin their own story if they want to, and this happens a lot in the soccer community. In fact, David Fergus decided to get in on the debate surrounding Burnley soccer player Jay Rodriguez, and he decided to share the rumor that he'd heard. But when he was questioned by another Twitter user, he didn't seem to like it!
But in asking his critic for his source, David was schooled in the funniest way possible. With just three words, Jay's dad was able to seriously pack a punch. Always check the surnames, people!
Don't Patronize the Professor
Unfortunately, it's pretty easy to be patronized on the internet. And this is pretty annoying, especially when you just want to share your thoughts online without having to deal with irritating people who think they know it all. This professor realized this for herself when she decided to share her annoyance with Java. Of course, it didn't take long for the patronizers to assemble - and this guy even added in a wink face for good measure!
Instead of just ignoring his patronizing comment, this professor decided to school him on the fact that she was pretty well-versed in what she supposedly needed to learn. You go, professor!
We Don't Think a 3-Time Grammy-Winner Needs Your Publicity, Kylie
People on the internet think they've got so much to give, and they give off an air of superiority because of this. But what people don't realize is that research can go a long way - especially if you're reaching out to music artists! And while we have to commend Kylie for giving new and upcoming artists the chance to shine on her radio station, we can't help but think that she should have done some research before emailing Annie Lennox.
Instead of just ignoring this email, music icon Annie decided to post it on Twitter and laugh it off. But it sure taught her, and we bet Kylie never sent an unsolicited and under-researched email ever again.
"I Dunno, Man"
Let's be honest; everyone thinks they're an expert on Twitter. People comment on everything from war to politics and global warming, and it's all pretty awkward - especially when these people comment on other people's posts. When Katie decided to share her worries about climate change, she expected a few sympathetic replies. Instead, she got a global warming denier who wanted to let her know that the whole thing was a scam!
However, Gary should have looked a little harder at Katie's profile before replying. If he had, he would have realized that she has a literal Ph.D. in astrophysics! Yes, this seriously backfired for him.
They Didn't Realize Lewis Black Was Watching Them Take Photos With Lewis Black
In today's day and age, celebrity culture is everywhere. We can watch our favorite celebs on our TV screens, we can follow their every day moves on social media, and can even attempt to meet them in real life. And when these fans found a poster of their favorite celebrity, they knew that they had to take a picture with him. But if they'd been a little more observant, they would have realized that he was a little closer than they thought.
In response to this hilarious exchange, the man himself decided to post this photo on social media. And we can't help but think that his fans were kicking themselves when they saw it!
What Does J. K. Rowling Really Know About Harry Potter, Anyway?
As one of the biggest franchises of all time, it should come as no surprise to hear that 'Harry Potter fans can get pretty passionate. Everyone has their own thoughts and feelings about the stories, but the only person who really knows the answers is J.K Rowling herself. The person behind the Harry Potter Fans Twitter page obviously didn't think that, though. They believed that they were right, and they weren't afraid to let Rowling know!
We've heard of Q&As with the author of famous books, but we've never heard of someone outright telling an author why something happened in their book. That's a new low for the internet community.
WWJD - What Would Jesus Do? Probably Not Call the Police
You have to feel a bit sorry for this priest. He took the time to get this touching statue of Jesus placed in front of his church, only for someone to call the police on it. Why? Well, they thought it was someone homeless, and, apparently, that was a reason to call the cops. If only they'd gotten a little closer to the "homeless person," they would have realized that they actually knew who the person on the bench was.
Yes, that's a statue of Jesus! How ironic. Maybe in some ways, the statue served the exact purpose it was supposed to do.
That Side Angle, Though
If you've ever seen a celebrity out in the wild, you've probably had to second-guess yourself every so often. After all, it's pretty embarrassing to go up to a random person thinking they're a celebrity only to realize that they're just an average Joe. But this drive-thru worker was obviously pretty confident that the guy he was looking at in the car looked just like Tony Hawk. So, he decided to let him know!
But when Tony turned around to face the worker, the disappointment on his face said it all. That must have been pretty disappointing for Tony, too. After all, he only looks like himself from the side!
This Dude Just Got Served
There's nothing more annoying than someone shouting about a topic they're not familiar with. They don't have the facts, they don't have the information, and they don't have the experience. So, we agree with the notion of what the first guy is saying. The only problem is that he seems to be talking about himself! Sure, he may have been "baffled" by the person he's responding to, but we're just as baffled about him.
In questioning the authenticity of an actual expert, he just made himself look silly. And we're glad Maajid didn't hold back in their response! That's a serious mic drop, right?
We Sincerely Hope You're Joking
It's fair to say that most people love to complain - especially if they've been wronged. But some people on the internet just love to complain for the sake of complaining, and we can't help but think that this "Anonymous" person is one of them. When seeing this picture online, they just had to complain about the "stupid hipster chick" who knew nothing about the 'Star Wars' franchise. Oh, how wrong they were!
It seems as though this commenter should be called out for not watching all the movies. If they had, they'd realize that this was the 'Star Wars' legend herself, Natalie Portman.
He's Written for Them, But Has He Taken the Time to Watch Them?
You could write something as simple as "I like oranges" online, and you can almost guarantee that someone will quip back with a criticism of oranges and why they're the worst things in the world. Yes, some people just like to critique for the sake of it - and most of the time, they have no idea who or what they're actually criticizing. On this occasion, it's clear to see that this person had absolutely no clue.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. This person really did tell the writer of 'Doctor Who' that they could tell he'd never seen a previous episode of the show before. This is a serious facepalm.
Time to Fact Check
One thing a lot of people need to learn is how to slow down. So many people are quick to judge and quick to assume without all of the facts in front of them. And most of the time, this doesn't end up working in their favor. This critic realized that for himself when he decided to school Eric about his own post about the company that he actually worked for. You couldn't make it up.
Eric's response says it all, really. The "Yep" is a good indicator that he knows he's talking to someone who doesn't deserve any more of his precious time. You go, Eric.
She Works for Marvel So, Yeah, We'd Say She's a Fan of Comics
There are two kinds of people in this world. Some would be excited to find a fellow comic book lover on a dating app, and then some would try and bring that person down by trying to prove that they're not the fan they thought they were. And when this person matched with Leah on a dating app, their instant response to her love and passion for comics was to test whether she was a true fan or not.
What this person failed to realize was that Leah was literally on Marvel's payroll and helped to write the comic he was testing her on. So, we have a feeling that she'd beat him any day!
Prime Ministers Aren't Exempt From Providing a Bibliography
On the one hand, the Coin for Peace Twitter page is doing the right thing. In asking for a source from this Tweet, they were asking for clarification and hard evidence that what this person was saying was correct. But it's obvious that the person behind this Twitter page didn't look at who had tweeted this piece of information before they decided to quip back with their own smart-aleck response.
If they had taken a proper look, they would have realized that they were asking the literal Prime Minister of Malta who his sources were! In our eyes, he has the best sources of them all.
He Missed His Chance to Network With the Marvel Editor in Chief... No Big Deal
Okay, we can kind of understand this situation. If you're having a private conversation with your friends or colleagues, it can be pretty annoying when someone comes up and bothers you. But we bet this person was kicking themselves when they realized that the person who interrupted their conversation and asked to look at their comic portfolio was none other than the editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics!
Many people would kill to have C.B Cebulski take a look at their portfolio, and we would have loved to have seen their face when they eventually saw this Tweet online.
A Real Life Horror Story
Everyone knows Stephen King, right? This author is perhaps one of the most famous authors of all time, but there's no doubt about the fact that there are some people out there who aren't a fan. And that's totally fine! After all, books are subjective, and everyone has their own thoughts and feelings when it comes to books. But if this person wasn't a fan of Stephen King, why read a Richard Bachman novel?
Richard Bachman is actually the pen name of Stephen King. And so, while this critic thought they were insulting King during their review, what they didn't realize was that they were complimenting him!
Mansplaining Gone Wrong
In some circumstances, telling someone they're wrong could be the difference between life and death. But it's always a good idea to have proof that someone is wrong before you go to them with this information. And while some men do this, others don't put as much time and attention into doing this before they go full force. This man is one of them, and during his process of mansplaining, he made himself look extremely silly.
Although he tried to prove to Emma that she was wrong with the use of a research paper, what he failed to realize was that she was the original author of the paper. That must have been awkward!
Just Part of the Crowd
Although we have a feeling that many celebrities would love to go unnoticed in a crowd, we can't help but feel sorry for Mike Joyce on this occasion. Sure, he wanted to blend into the crowd, but being schooled by someone who didn't even know who he was? That must have hurt a little bit. Especially when the guy next to him decided to teach him a little bit about the band he was in.
Instead of schooling him in person, Mike decided to write about the hilariously awkward encounter online. We bet the concertgoer felt silly after seeing this. After all, that was Mike Joyce!
That Time Benson Mayowa Put Someone in Timeout
We live in a world where people are just mean for the sake of being mean, and while some people take this to heart, others fight back! This was the case when Dallas Cowboys player Benson Mayowa was told by a Seahawks fan that he was jumping on the bandwagon when he posted their his team's most recent score. Sure, the Seahawks fan supports a different team - but why comment, then?!
Benson obviously thought the same, which is why he decided to respond hilariously to the tweet. And we have to agree with him. It's probably best if this guy does go stand in a corner.
The Cosplay Criticism
If you're not into cosplay, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's a free space where people can dress up how they wish. But this awkward exchange is proof that this isn't the case! It seems as though everyone has their own rules that they want others to abide by, and one person had some pretty strong opinions about this woman turning herself purple to transform into Steven Universe's Amethyst. Who knew you couldn't turn yourself purple?
This critic decided that a white person couldn't turn themselves purple, which is news to us. We guess now we know.
Who's Telling the Truth?
Unfortunately, the internet is full of liars. People love to make up false stories for attention, but with so many liars around, it's often hard to find the truth amongst the lies. And in this case, we don't know who to believe! Either Vince was booed off the stage, or Booker is making a story up for the sake of it. Either way, there's no doubt about the fact that this Twitter exchange was pretty awkward.
With both Vince and Booker pretty confident in their own lanes, there's only one thing that will settle this. We need to hear from others who were at this Mac Miller concert in Houston!
Excuse Us Ma'am, Are You Familiar With Your Own Work?
There's nothing more satisfying than watching someone crash and burn during a Twitter argument. And while it sometimes takes a worthy opponent to bring a critic down, sometimes they do all the hard work themselves. Don't believe us? Just take a look at this guy. He tried to school this woman on Twitter by giving her some reading to "familiarize" herself with. What he didn't realize was that he was sending the woman her own work.
As we can't see a response from this guy, we can only assume that he felt way too embarrassed and mortified to show his face on Twitter again. And rightly so.
They Should've Double-Checked His Resume Before Sending That Email
There's nothing more upsetting than being turned down for a job that you really want and for one that you feel you're qualified for. But this was even more of a blow for this man, who was rejected in the most savage way. In this rejection email, he was encouraged to gain more experience and insight by reading a write-up that he'd written himself! No, you really can't write this stuff.
Instead of just ignoring this patronizing email, this guy decided to fight back and prove that he was worthy. And prove that he was a downright genius. We bet they were sorry.
Taking It Well
Twitter is a pretty neat place to have conversations with like-minded people across the world. You can discuss music, sports, movies, and more - and that's exactly what these people were doing! But what they didn't expect was for the filmmaker of the movie they were discussing to pop up in the conversation. Luckily, it seems as though David isn't too sensitive and just appreciates the fact that someone watched his movie.
Yes, he seemed to take the criticism pretty well. And while his horror movie was called "boring" and "not scary," it was pretty much water off a duck's back. Be more like David.
Checkmate!
One of the best ways to back up your argument is to include some kind of analogy. This allows everyone to get a better understanding of what you're talking about, and this guy decided to do just that when engaged in this Twitter war. But while they decided to use chess as the main part of their analogy, they soon realized this was a bad idea. After all, you don't make a chess analogy when you know nothing about the game!
The International Chess Federation was quick to call this guy out on his chess crimes, but it seemed as though he just didn't want to hear about it. In his eyes, he was right - even though he was extremely wrong.
A Legitimate Fountain of Knowledge
When it comes down to it, this guy isn't 100% wrong. You should always take what you read online - especially in blogs - with a pinch of salt. But this totally depends on what blog you're reading and who wrote it! But this guy didn't put two and two together when they were quick to tear down this particular blog, as one quick Google search would have told them that it was written by a legitimate fountain of knowledge.
Although this critic tried to get the upper hand, they were quickly torn down in a simple and effective Twitter storm. Yes, Ciaran really told them what was up, and it's hilarious.
Open Your Wallet
You probably don't need us to tell you that Twitter houses most of the critics on social media, which is why so many people were over the moon when Elon Musk decided to buy the website. But while some were ecstatic, others were a little concerned - and this politician decided to air her concerns, ironically, on Twitter. In this Tweet, she criticized the $8 subscription Elon Musk put in place for verified users.
But Elon Musk isn't one for taking this criticism on board. Instead, he decided to quip back with a hilarious response and ask the politician to simply open her wallet instead.
Stevie Doesn't Even Deserve a Response at This Point
We're certainly no experts when it comes to politics or terrorism, and we have a feeling that most average Joes are in the same boat. But as Jim is a former head of an anti-terrorist agency, we're sure he knows more than the rest of us - so why not listen to him? Well, it seems as though Stevie didn't want to do that. Instead, he wanted to question the credibility of the expert in a seriously awkward Twitter exchange.
But even when Jim explained his former job role, it just wasn't enough for Stevie. We don't know what else Jim could offer, as Jim seems pretty reliable to us!
The Source Is Legit
Although the internet is a place for information, it's also a place for misinformation. So, we don't blame people for questioning what they read every now and then. But sometimes, these questions just aren't necessary - especially if you do your own research beforehand. This person would have saved themselves some serious embarrassment if they'd only read the actual article they were commenting on. It's pretty hilarious for us, though.
Although this critic tried to call out an expert on this occasion, it seems as though the Police Chief wasn't in the mood to play games. And he was not willing to hold back.
When You Unknowingly Ask a Celebrity to Take a Photo of You
Celebrities; they're just like us! Or at least that's what these ladies thought, anyway. They were so interested in getting a photo of themselves that they didn't even realize that they had asked a legendary Olympic gold medalist to take their photo. Normally, Katie Ledecky would be the one in front of the camera. But on this occasion, she was a dedicated photographer. You never know; she might have enjoyed the change of pace!
We have a feeling that the women felt a little silly when they came across this photo online, though. Although this is certainly a funny story to tell their family, at least they still have photo evidence!
What a Great Suggestion, Thanks
There are always going to be people who think they know everything, and we've come to terms with the fact that that's just the world we live in. But there's no doubt about the fact that this is a pretty strange and bizarre Twitter exchange! Carol obviously thought she knew more about this topic than Charles, and she encouraged him to "open up your reading habits" to include conservative sources. The only problem? Charles literally wrote for a conservative magazine.
Instead of going into too much detail and defending himself, Charles decided to keep things simple. And we think the "I'm the editor of National Review Online" probably put Carol in her place!
Read the Full Article Before Opinionating
There have been so many awkward and embarrassing online encounters on this list, but we think this might be one of the worst. Yes, this person really did try and school this writer by telling her that she was wrong and that she should read her own article to understand better. As you can imagine, the writer was a little confused - and it didn't take her long to reply to this bizarre exchange.
If anything, we think that the person who replied to the writer should read the article. If they did, they'd realize that her name was right at the top, front, and center.
So Why Do You Look so Much Like You in Every Photo?
Some people thrive off drama, and we can't help but think that this guy is one of them. Obviously, he thought that he was calling out a woman for only posting pictures of light-skinned women at the carnival. He assumed that she was purposefully leaving out women with darker skin and that she had hand-picked light-skinned women to fit her agenda. But what he failed to realize was that these weren't women. This was just one woman!
Yes, this guy really did try and call this woman out for posting pictures of herself. And if that's the world we live in, nobody is safe from internet users anymore!
Everyone Is a Loser
We think this whole exchange should be put on the curriculum at every high school in the world. After all, you could spend days dissecting each response! And while you could say that everyone wins in their own way during this conversation around Iggy Azalea, we're here to point out that everyone loses. Sure, they all put in their two cents, but they also get brought down to Earth pretty quickly.
This is the perfect example of a fight-or-flight response. And as all of the participants in this exchange decided to fight, it's all kinds of messy. Yes, it's pure chaos.
No Plagiarism Here
Plagiarism is one of the biggest threats to the arts, and it's easier than ever for someone to pass up someone else's work as their own. So, we're not surprised that there are people out there who are ready to call out others for plagiarism. But here's an idea; why don't you have a look and see if they have any connection to the work before you assume? This person didn't do that.
Instead, they tried to point the finger and suggest that the artist who quite literally drew the image in this post had no right to claim it as theirs. Oh, the world is so exhausting!
Wonder What He's up to
The airport experience is certainly a stressful one. Yes, keeping your luggage within the weight limitations is one thing, but getting through TSA without breaking a sweat is another problem entirely. But we're not the only ones who have to do this. Celebrities also have to go through these mundane checks, and one TSA agent found them in a unique situation when they came across someone with the exact same name as skateboarder Tony Hawk.
For some reason, they didn't put two and two together and failed to understand that the man himself was right in front of him. Don't worry, though; Tony soon put him right.
Please Enlighten Us
At first glance, this is a shocking post to see on your screen. So, it's no wonder this person garnered comments from friends and followers agreeing with their sentiments on the farming industry. But don't be fooled by emotive images you see online, folks! Although this person tried to claim that they were spreading factual information about the farming industry, an actual farmer soon came in with their own two cents. And they were a little different.
As you can imagine, this farmer wanted to shut down these claims straight away. And when the original poster questioned their authority, they didn't hold back on showcasing their experience in the industry.
His Staff Has It Out for Him
A general rule of thumb when it comes to being a human is that you should just never comment on someone's appearance. After all, you never know what someone's going through, and you could seriously hurt someone's feelings. Faran obviously didn't get that memo, as she decided to publicly call out this man for wearing a bandana. While she didn't realize that he was going through chemotherapy at the time, this was still super awkward.
Of course, the resemblance between these two photos is uncanny - but there's a time and a place for jokes like this. And maybe posting this online for everyone to see, wasn't it?
An Unexpected Twist
We've all been in a situation where somebody has been in our way. And while most people will move out of the way if you ask nicely enough, it seems as though this woman really didn't want to move her Porsche. And while we'd understand if she simply flipped this person the bird or cursed out the window, she did something totally unexpected. Yes, she shot the man who asked her to move her car!
To make this story even more bizarre, she managed to get off without any prison time at all. She was simply sentenced to less than a year of probation. Make it make sense!
